Dournes was one of the masters of ethnology in Southeast Asia. In addition to his work on oral literature, his "Coordonnées" (1972) and "Pötao" (1977) remained major works. Jacques Dournes a légué à l'IRSEA son fonds documentaire (le « Fonds Dournes ») déposé à la Bibliothèque de la Maison Asie Pacifique (MAP) en 1993.

Jacques Dournes bequeathed to the IRSEA his documentary collection (the «Dournes Fund») deposited at the Library of the Asia Pacific House (MAP, France) in 1993.
