Field recording collected by Dana Rappoport in Eastern Indonesia in 2006 and 2007.

SEA Annotations

Catholic singing office. Every Saturday morning, in the small town of Larantuka, a group of women have been meeting for four centuries in a chapel to sing songs from Portuguese colonization around 1550. These songs are sung in Latin, Old Portuguese and Indonesian. . 10 tracks alternate prayers and songs in different languages. This is a personal, contextual prayer.•

fr Mixed chorus with bell held by a soloist. Danced in the round. The women are in a circle, the women in 4s, the men holding each other's shoulders, taking small steps. Great vigor of the dance linked to the rhythm, to the excitement caused by the soloist who sends the phrases, who rings a bell. Antiphony men and women.
