(15:02 for the entire length of the LP Begins with a British Library introduction to the whole recording:) This is British Library National Sound Archive Tape T10690 WR. And this is track R. On this track we are going to be having a copy of a BBC sound archive LP 11149 which is in fact a single sided 12 inch LP - which is running about half the length of this tape. It has 6 bands and they are basically all different things, because without exception all these bands are copies from earlier BBC sound archive 78 rpm discs . Unfortunately we do not actually have the discographicl information to equate them precisely. The information is given only in very brief form on the disc label. Please see the label that this stuck on the exterior of the record sleeve for details. First segment is on a Jewish holiday, then at 5:33 : Hello BBC this is Alexander Moyes saluting you from Ceylon, on behalf of both Radio SEAC and Colombo Radio on the occasion of your Silver Jubilee as our joint contribution to your celebrations We have chosen an ancient Sinhalese melody which has been set to a special poem of greeting befitting this time of general congratulation. This will be sung for you by a famous Singhalese artist who has often broadcast with the BBC during his visits to London, Devar Surya Sena and with him you will hear women’s voices and an orchestra of some of the musical instruments of this country, under the direction of (?) Lionel Adrusinghe and (?) Siyar Maharajah. 6:16 Music and recitation of poem Explanation/ Interruption comes up at 8:32 The words of this poem, composed by Mudaliyar Abayasekara tell of the appreciation which exists in Ceylon of the BBC’s power to communicate with so many of the nations of the world and in poetic language, the song goes on to say that Ceylon in particular wishes to express its admiration for a broadcasting organisation, which over a period of 25 years has devoted itself to increasing this service. This message in song includes a reminder that the art of broadcasting is fostered by Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom. 9:07. Music and recitation of poem Ends at 9:36
