He was a left wing idealist who joined the Burma police and resigned for reasons of conscience, who fought for the popular front in the Spanish War and years later devoted his best talents to a savage satirical attack on communism. I don't think any satirist has made such an impact on English thought since Dean Swift wrote Gulliver's Travels. You probably know . 1984, a brilliant, gloomy, of life in Britain under a totalitarian regime. and Animal FArm, where a goes through a process of tyranny in the Bolshevik pattern. Animal Farm has been made into a popular cartoon film and 1984 created into a Television film which created an impact when it was made a year or two ago. And all these recordings feature the poetess Ruth Pitter, although there are other tracks and bands amongst this recording. The first one I shall transfer is BBC Sound Archives LP 23052.
