About the “köni” instrument, Jacques Dournes writes: “Köni does not easily fit into organological classifications; describing it as a monochord fiddle would still be far from accurate. Its essential constituent element is a vibrating string, "kuat". Vibrations are produced by two sources: a bow that moves back and forth on the string; a string attached to the rope and the opposite end of which is in the mouth of the player."
