Introduction to the recording: ( The first part of the dubbing consists of a recording of a violin concerto by Arnold Bacs.) Introduction starting at 33: 37 - 34:09 The remainder of BBC Sound Archives LP 23286 comprises two bands by Sir Leonard Wooley. Band 2 of the LP is Discoveries at Corbridge Northumberland, and Band 3 is Discoveries at Ur. Interviews are conducted by Stephen Black and the two bands are taken from Personal Call, and broadcast on the network, London Calling Asia on the 17th of October 1955. Having been recorded on the 25th of July,1955. Summary notes: 34:07 - 37: 19 Wooley talks about working for the Ashmolean museum, doing dour cataloguing work, but was invited to go on a dig. Had beginner's luck . Got better things - sculpture and inscriptions. Remembers the excitement. First thing discovered Corbridge Lion - was a stone statue of a lion killing a stag, an ornament for the fountain. Sculptures is an uncommon thing to find in England). Evoked local pride. Recording note: The label incorrectly spells the location being discussed 'Cawbridge'. 1 tape reel mono dubbed into Audio tapes by the British Library.
