History of ownership
Wax cylinder collection recorded by Kunst, Kunst-Van Wely (ca. 350 items indexed), Father Verschueren (24+ items indexed) and Leroux (48+ items indexed). Originals in Phonogrammarchiv Berlin. Berlin stores thousands of original wax cylinders, wax cylinder copies, and electrotype moulds / galvano negatives. Kunst’s material is among these, but as of October 2018 there is no proper insight where exactly and whether there are more than the ones already indexed. Copies of the wax roles that were later indexed were sent to the Tropenmuseum during Kunst’s lifetime and possibly to the Phonogrammarchiv Vienna (Austria), where the recordings of Kunst’s successor in Indonesia, Karl Halusa (1906-1959), may also be found.
