Tune “Hunting the gibbon” on köni fiddle.
Recording in situ. Announcement by J. Dournes. The playing of the monochord fiddle "köni" implies that the musician also produces sounds with his voice: a string attached to the string of the instrument is held in his mouth. He hums through gritted teeth. Unpublished sound recordings of instrumental/vocal melodies and instrumental performances made by Jacques Dournes from 1963 to 1964 in Vietnam with the Jarai population.
