Private recording, made at my request at the musicians' home. Hat Choi = song for the entertainment of a small, educated group (repertoire and practice associated with urban sociability, formerly of the singing house, now of the club). Nowadays, the Hat Ru ('lullaby') is always preceded by the song 'Hat Giai (Song of the Young Boy)' in which the singer recounts the story of the injustice done to Kinh Tâm. She wanted to cut a hair that was growing crookedly under the chin of her sleeping husband, Thiên Si. He, startled awake, accused his wife of trying to kill him. Kinh Tâm had to flee and disguise herself as a boy (hence the song 'Hat Giai') to be admitted to the temple as a monk. Unjustly accused a second time by the daughter of a wealthy landowner of being the 'father' of her baby, she had to take the child in and rock it to sleep (hence 'Hat Ru' = lullaby). Nguyen Kiên Anh (born in 1994) is the niece of Nguyên Vân Khuê (born in 1962). Phach = bamboo board struck with two wooden sticks, one of which is partially split; dan-day = lute with three nylon strings (formerly silk), trapezoidal body.

Enregistrement privé, réalisé à ma demande chez les musiciens. Hat choi = chant pour le divertissement d'un petit comité lettré (répertoire et pratique associés à une sociabilité urbaine, autrefois de la maison de chant, aujourd'hui du club). De nos jours, le Hat ru (= 'berceuse') est toujours précédé du chant Hat giai ('chant du jeune garçon') dans lequel la chanteuse raconte l'histoire de l'injustice faite à Kinh Tâm. Celle-ci voulut couper un poil qui poussait de travers sous le menton de son mari Thiên Si endormi. Celui-ci, réveillé en sursaut, accusa son épouse d'avoir voulu attenter à sa vie. Kinh Tâm dut s'enfuir et se déguiser en garçon (d'où le chant 'Hat giai') pour se faire admettre au temple comme bonze. Accusée une seconde fois injustement par la fille d'un riche propriétaire d'être le 'père' de son bébé, elle dut prendre l'enfant en charge et le bercer pour l'endormir (d'où le 'Hat ru' = berceuse). Nguyen Kiên Anh (née en 1994) est la nièce de Nguyên Vân Khuê (né en 1962). Phach = planchette de bambou frappée avec 2 baguettes en bois, dont une est partiellement fendue; dan-day = luth à 3 cordes de nylon (autrefois de soie), caisse trapézoïdale•
