Jacques Dournes

Jacques Dournes was an exceptional ethnologist: twenty-five years in the field, an encyclopedic knowledge of the societies studied, an excellent knowledge of languages. Dournes was one of the masters of ethnology in Southeast Asia. In addition to his work on oral literature, his "Coordonnées" (1972) and "Pötao" (1977) remained major works. His work as a linguist is also important (see his jörai dictionary, available at the MAP Library)." Jacques Dournes bequeathed to the IRSEA his documentary collection (the «Dournes Fund») deposited at the Library of the Asia Pacific House (MAP, France) in 1993.
