description

en The West Kalimantan (Borneo Island) corpus presents the music of three neighboring Dayak language groups: Taman, Kayan and Iban. While the Taman music was recorded during rituals, the Kayan Mendalam and Iban music were recorded on request. At the age of 29, from July to September 1997, Dana Rappoport, accompanied by photographer friend Marie-Blanche Hannequin, set off for Kalimantan to explore a musical kinship between two societies of the Insulindian archipelago, the Dayak Taman, whose linguistic kinship with the societies of South Sulawesi is attested.
